Kicking off SciChats 2.0

Avani Gadani was the overall winner of our first run of SciChats, capturing students’ interest with her description of how we see. Along with SciChats co-leader Abby Buchwalter, Avani visited Del Mar Hills Academy on the evening of October 22nd to talk science with interested students and parents.

Avani reprised her talk about how things see, and talked a bit more about color blindness based on interest she got from students during her SciChat.

Abby revisited how cells are put together, and included some videos of living cells moving around and interacting with each other.

Thanks to funding from the American Society for Cell Biology’s COMPASS Outreach Grant program, we were able to present Avani with a prize for her efforts. Thanks, Avani, for taking the time to share what you do!

Thanks to all the scientists who have participated in SciChats so far! We are planning 12 chats through the 2014-2015 school year, and may be bringing the program to an additional school. Please stay tuned!
